I know in Ottawa there is at least one Christian radio station, and section 1a of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms promises "freedom of conscience and religion".

Agreed. Crazyfingers, you could refer him to the preamble to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which states: "Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law..." If there exists a more anti-Christian statement than that, I've yet to see it. And I suppose the folks at Vision TV--with their plethora of tax-funded Christian programmes--will be shocked and amazed to learn that "Christian TV and radio is illegal, i.e. there are no Christian TV or radio stations." Some "illegal" Christian shows: 100 Huntley Street It's a New Day Insight Spirit Alive TV Ministries The Rock Christian Video Show Many of these shows are produced and broadcast by Crossroads, an apparently illegal production company and broadcaster. That's good stuff. I think I'll use it. Thanks Tony1 will probably dismiss it, but that's not the point. He would dismiss a blue sky if the bible said it was yellow. |

<a href="http://www.miraclechannel.ca/" target="_blank">The Miracle Channel</a> <a href="http://www.crossroads.ca/broadcas/about100.htm" target="_blank">100 Huntley Street</a> I personally get an Xtian television channel as part of basic cable here in Vancouver called <a href="http://www.nowtv.ca/" target="_blank">Now-TV</a>. |

Sakpo, it's interesting that you live in B.C. and get NOW, because I also live in B.C. and don't get any religious channels except Vision TV which is non-denominational and features programming from other religions besides Christianity. I certainly don't think Christian programming is illegal here, but I agree with people who say there is a shortage of it. I have heard that Christian movies are shown regularly on some American channels, but I don't know of any channel here that shows them.

Perhaps the lack of numerous Christian programming can be attributed to the fact that Canadians aren’t as religious as Americans. We too have our share of fundies, but luckily most of them do not hold any public office.
Although when it comes to separation of church and state we are very lax; aside from the fact that Catholic schools (and I also believe some other religious schools) receive funding from the government, there has recently been a proposal here in Calgary to introduce religious instruction in public schools. |
