What's all that fuss about Gospel of Thomas?
I read about the Gospel of Thomas not being
recognised by Church people (did I mention church?) I was told/thought that it would destruct the system of church, but what I find interesting is that it shares a lot in common with Buddhism. |

I recently finished reading The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels which discusses the Gospel of Thomas along with the other Gnostic Gospels found at Nag Hammadi. I think the significance of the find is that it shows that Gnostic Christianity was a parallel movement to Orthodox/Catholic Christianity with equal claims to apostolic authority rather than a heretical offshoot like the Catholics made them out to be. The Gnostic Gospels also highlight the fact that the Catholic church was successful because it was a political organization from the beginning and the doctrine they developed reflected the political structure of the church.
