What about the republicans who supported John McCain, during his campaign he singled out Robertson and Falwell and compared them to other hate-mongers (which they are). There IS a diversity of thought. But to be honest the more i see CERTAIN republicans claim that the founding fathers were Christians, etc. I get a little miffed. That's basically the side of the party that makes me not want to call myself republican anymore.

BTW, i don't really care who cheats on their wife.

You notice McCain lost. He doesn't control the party machinery.

A lot of people complained about the choices for president in the last election. I figure that is what you get when the main qualification for being nominated was "can't prove he cheated on his wife like Clinton."

To be quite honest, although I may disagree with a number of his policies, I like McCain himself for the guts he has to follow his own path. It will be intresting to see if and how he plays a role in the 2004 election, because of the speculation about how such centrism will atract swing voters.

To Pat Robertson:

BRING IT ON.

I'd prefer a good fight to all this sneaking around.

(With apologies to Han Solo)

Interesting, apt metaphor you chose there...

Well, given who is the baby in that metaphor... oh wait, you probably weren't making a comment about W's intelligence...

I just had an uncomfortable encounter with a fundy friend who happens to be an admirer of Pat Robertson. Maybe "admirer" is too strong a word, but she seems convinced that Pat's worldview is essentially correct.
It is depressing to me that this normally sweet-natured person could parrot his religious bigotry and I told her so, as I felt this made her a bigot also, by default.
Surprisingly enough, my concern for her public image was not warmly received and I'm wondering if we will ever get past this.
I guess Pat's "aw shucks" demeanor and goofy non-stop smiling can make the most vile statements sound reasonable and even loving. To some, anyway.

I think after the sick stuff he said along with Falwell about 9-11 he has lost most of his "relevance" (not like he was relevant anyway, mind you). I think many republicans are now kind of afraid to support these guys. I hope the trend continues. There's no place for them.

I think bible thumpers and or pro lifers (and pro-choicers) who are single issue people really do a disservice to the rest of the U.S. For whatever reason the fundies and the right tend to go hand in hand. It sucks, but hopefully the old ways are fading.
