Post Robertson Says ‘Day Of Judgment’ Due Soon For United States

<a href="http://www.au.org/churchstate/cs3026.htm" target="_blank">Church and State</a>

Scroll down about 1/3 of the way and read about Pat Robertson's prediction for the United States and his love for President Bush. (It's sad to recall that Robertson lived in my home town, Staten Island, NY, for a brief period.)

My favorite part was this :
Quote:
Robertson apparently rings in every new year by having a personal conversation with God. Unfortunately, the information he gets is often wrong. On Jan. 1, 1980, for example, Robertson gathered together the employees at his Christian Broadcasting Network to warn them that God had told him that the Soviet Union would invade several Middle Eastern nations, seize their oil reserves and cause the economies of Europe and the United States to collapse. This situation, Robertson said, would lead to the rise of the Antichrist. This scenario was supposed to occur by 1982 at the latest.

No, no. I think Pat has it all wrong. You see, God spoke to me and He said this:

"Pat Robertson is a fucking moron."

There you have it.

In all seriousness, I can't believe anybody takes this guy seriously. If they do, they should probably be committed. Heck, I think Pat himself belongs in an institute.

It amazes me how anyone, much less the Republican party, can even pretend to take this dufus seriously. In light of his post-9/11 comments it will be interesting to see how the Repubs respond to the intellectual impoverishment of the xian coalition in 2004.

Unfortunately, you have to take seriously people who control the amount of wealth that Robertson does. His on-line ministries bring in lots of dough, especially since he promises people that if they send money to him, they will get it back eight fold in this lifetime, not to mention in heaven. The FTC can't stop this consumer fraud because of "religious freedom." Robertson can then use his ill-got gain for more respectable business ventures (like race horses and oil wells) and for buying politicans, like GWBush.

The only reason the Republicans (or anybody) take this dolt seriously, is because they are not even keeping within radio contact of reality, or what the public wants or needs. The entire government is so detached from the needs of the ordinary citizen (like healthcare, a job, clean water) that I swear they are from some other planet. And every once in a while, some government official will say something truthfull, that doesn't jibe with the party line, and it is like a wack-a-mole game to see who can pound them first. Of course they side with a nut job like Robertson. They are all from the planet gibberish, where up is down, black is white and a big invisible man in the sky dictates how the little people should kiss his ass

Yes, it really doesn't get much more amazing than that. Every time Robertson starts yammering about his conversations with God, his followers open their wallets a little wider. This latest conversation is a real doozee. It seems that America will survive the "day of judgment," but "not in its present form." GW Bush will, of course, come out smelling like a rose because God likes and guides him. Put those two statements together and it looks as though Da Lawd has seen enough of this republic/democracy stuff and is planning a return to the good old days of divine right monarchy.

As for how the Republicans will respond, I suspect that they'll suck mile after mile of Christian Coalition shlong, same as always. Intellectual bankruptcy has never bothered the Republican party (nor the Democrats, for that matter) so long as the campaign contributions keep rolling in.

very simple: only insane or stupid people hear voices in their head. What really bothers me is you have people with access to weapons of mass destruction who are more than happy to listen to the voices in their head. What if the little jezus in their head decides to start whispering “kill, kill, kill”?
Last time I checked, hearing voices was a sign of a very serious mental illness, not gawd wanting to chit-chat.

From a business standpoint Robertson's comments make perfect sense. His flock has money. He tells flock they're freakin' doomed. Flock gives him their money (well, maybe they keep a little to play the lottery). I'd bet if he told his $700 Club everything was peachy with the Big Cheese the dollars would stop flowing. Robertson is in marketing. Human ignorance can be a very profitable commodity when it is harne$$ed correctly.
