Here's an article from BBC Online with a general "look at them wacky Americans" tone, but which paints a pretty scary picture of life inside the Bush White House.

I've heard something similar from interviews with David Frum (Shrub's old speechwriter, the "axis of evil" guy, a Canadian and we're all Very Very Sorry about inflicting such a right-wing twit on you). He found it pretty awkward there at times when someone would launch into a prayer to Jeebus and expect everyone to join in. They would understand, of course, that being Jewish he would pray differently, but he never got over the way that other people not being Christian never occurred to most of the staff officials there.
