Personally, I think the person sending the Osama tapes and the person sending the Saddam tapes are the same person.

When everyone was looking for Osama, all these tapes showed up with Osama urging a jihad against the US; now that everyone's forgotten about him and is looking for Saddam, there's all these tapes of Saddam urging a jihad against the US and Osama has shut up.

I'm pretty sure they're all being recorded by some bored teenager in Iran who's playing with his parent's tape recorder to try and mess with us all for a cheap laugh.

Until then, he can use (YET ANOTHER) threat of an attack by Osama to deflect attention from the mess in Iraq.

Bush loves crisis.

If he doesn't have one, he'll create one.

That's what I think.

Osama liked to be a big mouth, and we've heard nothing from him in months. He could be just laying very low - which, if he's alive, would be the smart thing to do. But I still think he's dead, and that those in power in the US know so. They just ain't letting on, because he still has some political clout for Bush et al should they need to play that card.

You dont really believe that, do you?!?
Thats quite a stretch...
I believe Saddams tapes are legit, and so does the CIA, aparentlly!

It is worse than "lawless." Its in open rebellion against the central government of Pakistan, having imposed an Islamic (Sharia) state, and the governmental troops know that if they go there, they will be starting their own civil war.

I agree, Osama is alive and well and hiding in that region of the world (on one side or the other of the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan).

If 'e is alive, at least he's 'armless.

If he is alive, and in such a region that it is considered a "no go" region, then he has plenty of men to train for Al-Qaeda.

Why does America seem to be ignoring this - instead choosing to chase after those with no relation to Al-Qaeda, wasting huge amounts of resources in the process?

Is that what "making the world a safer place" is, is it?

Poor Bush, et al. Lotsa muscle, no brains.

Well that is where you are mistaken. If you think that Bush is stupid because his tactics are wrong for the mission of making the world a safer place... you are wrong.

In fact, I believe he is not after any such goal as officialy explained by Ari Fleischer or any of the apologists.

You are working with the wrong premise of Bush actually after what he says he is after, Luna

I suspect Osama bin hiding. He enjoyed his celebrity, putting out tapes and such, until he released that one where the US figured out where he was because of the goddamned rock formation in the background, so now he's keeping a low profile in the Pakistani tribal lands near Afghanistan. It looks like most of the Taliban/Al Queda forces survived (many have now made their way back into Afghanistan, and some are engaging in violence), and I see no reason to suspect Osama is dead. Most of the reports I've read make it clear that the Taliban/Al Queda weren't decimated like we were being told they were.

Agreed.

Warlords returning to Afghanistan

Quote:
NEW YORK, July 29: Afghan warlords and political strong men supported by the United States and other nations are creating a climate of fear in Afghanistan that is threatening efforts to adopt a new constitution and could derail national elections scheduled for mid-2004 , Human Rights Watch said in a report of human rights body released on Tuesday.

The Human Rights Watch (HRW) warned that violence, political intimidation, and attacks on women and girls are discouraging political participation and endangering gains made on women's rights in Afghanistan over the last year.

"Human rights abuses in Afghanistan are being committed by gunmen and warlords who were propelled into power by the United States and its coalition partners after the Taliban fell in 2001," Brad Adams, executive director of the Asia Division of Human Rights Watch said.
Oh, KSF - I know Bush and his minions aren't interested in the world being a safer place. I've got their number, baby.

Or maybe he died long ago and they simply ran out of tapes.
