Post Local theologian: "The body of Jesus rotted in the tomb"

Our local weekly free rag, the Nashville Scene, has a nice cover story about a theologian working here at Vanderbilt Divinity School, Gerd Lüdemann.

<a href="http://www.nashvillescene.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?story=This_Week:News:Cover_Story" target="_blank">The body of Jesus rotted in the tomb</a>

Excerpts:
Quote:
He is acknowledged to be one of his generation's great intellects, a painstaking and accomplished biblical scholar and historian with an international reputation.

He is famous--or notorious, depending on one's predisposition--for saying... that many of the claims of classical Christianity, including its cornerstone, the Resurrection, are pious fluff that simply don't hold up in the face of modern historical research and post-Enlightenment sensibilities. They are, to take it a step further--and Lüdemann always does--part of what he calls "The Great Deception."
Even though I know the guy is a German import, I feel better seeing this. I had begun to despair of finding anyone outside these boards with the good sense to doubt the Jesus stuff.

Glad to see he's landed on his feet. As II regulars will recall, he was unceremoniously dumped from the theology faculty of a soi-disant secular German university after church leaders complained about his opinions.

I heard him debate William Lane Craig and wrote about it <a href="http://iidb.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=51&t=000070" target="_blank">in this thread.</a>

He's not a great debater, but I was favorably impressed with him as a human being.
