World views
I'm wondering if anyone here can help me out. I have been trying to find out what the prevelent world opinion is on things like the age of the earth, what about creationism? Is it just a Christian thing? Do other religions make serious claims to the age of the Earth, or evolution? What do worldwide scientists think. If any one has any info or stats I'd really appreciate it. I have really tried searching the web, but with zero success.

My take on your questions, only from wandering the web in these discussions, is that the only "educated" creationists appear to be fundamentalist Christians or Moslems, with maybe some Orthodox Jews thrown in. (I'm sure there are plenty of third-world folk who subscribe to their local folk belief on origins by default, as their schooling never got as far as serious biology.) I'm sure that scientists worldwide (as befits members of the Evil Darwinist Conspiracy ) agree on the canonical 4.56 billion year age for the earth, and that biological evolution is the explanation for today's biosphere. As to the "common man" in India or Brazil, though, I have no real information to make a guess.

Ultra-Orthodox Jews are literal 6-24-hour-day young-earth creationists. They believe the universe is about 5760 years old, and they staunchly oppose any connection between man and apes.
Ultra-Orthodox Jewish creationist material is just Christian YEC material plagiarised, with all references to Christianity (Jesus, Fall, Curse, New Testament) snipped. |

Thanks for the responses. Your posts reflect my best guesses, I had just hoped for a little more info. I mean, the theory of evolution, and the notion that the Earth is billions of years old is fairly new, so have mainstream scientists worldwide accepted these ideas, and if not, what do they support as an alternative view. As far as I can tell, it is only a minority of Christians, a few Jews, and lately a few Muslims that support creationism.
