Poor wittle xian.

Perhaps there's a little truth to that old saying:

"you reap what you sow".

Absolute? No, it is just that in general people wouldn't think that grief in any form could be good. It seems to me someone would have to abdicate their reason to think there was something good about grief.

Some of grief's synonyms:
• sadness
• melancholy
• gloominess
• cheerlessness
• glumness
• unhappiness
• dejection
• depression
• sorrowfulness
• misery
• miserableness
• woe
• wretchedness
• heartache
• sorrow
• sadness
• grief
• desolation
• suffering
• agony
• despair
• torment

Nothing about this list can reasonable seem good to me.

at the very least, you are making some appeals as to this thing called "good" that everyone is supposed to know about.
Obviously JC thought people should know what good was when he said that he wasn't good. But then he also didn't seem to even know where he was in John 3:13 so I can't see why anyone would take him as an authority about anything.

xian:
why are atheists so inexorably tied to the Christian religion?

To be a slave of Christianity is this:

one who does not agree with Christainity AND devotes a significant portion of his/her life into fighting it. ...

That's a bit like finding fault with creationists for being very obsessed with evolution.

GeoTheo, if you truly believe in the Christian faith, then you are to be an ambassador of it and be an example of all those pious ideals you hold so dearly. Picking on Helen or anyone else just because somethings crawled up your behind makes you about as holy as Radorth.

Or finding fault with a staunch conservative for being obsessed with liberal, "party-wasters" passing their anti-christian agendas in the local schools.

I don't think it's a waste of life at all. The reason I do it is because I think that Christianity (or any other religion) is hurtful to society. It has even been shown to make societies go extinct (take for instance, the devoutly-Christian Vikings in 14th century Greenland). I am putting energy into something I live for. I believe that every "missionary" or "witness" of any religion who speaks to others about his/her beliefs and how they can "make the world a better place" needs to have a counter-argument made against them in hopes of reducing the number of "believers" out there in the world. This is because I think religion is the beginning of ignorance and leads to a terrible way of life (we only have this one life to live after all). So by counter-arguing, I am hoping to "make the world a better place" by decreasing the number of theists and increasing the number of atheists. This would include getting into the "little" arguments about IPUs, etc...because one never knows which argument will be the one that persuades a theist (or someone who is undecided) into becoming an atheist.
