randman: Who's behind the lies?
Mr. Randman,
Let's just for the sake of discussion assume that your assertion is true: that our children our being taught a falsehood in the public schools. What I'd like to know is who you think is responsible for this and what you think their motivation is. In addition, I would like to understand how they are so successful at suppressing the "truth". So who is it? - teachers? - school administrators? - politicians? - the Supreme Court? - scientists? (if so, which ones) - the media? (who exactly) - aliens? (from where) Please be as specific as you can about who controls the teaching of lies, how they suppress the truth, what their motivation is, and what they gain by their actions. I am most curious to read your response. TTFN, LFOD |

What, not Elvis???
On a perfectly serious note: I share Randman's concern with the quality of education, particularly in the sciences, in the US today. This forum isn't the place to discuss this issue, and I probably have nothing both intelligent and workable to propose about ways to improve it. But I am not a happy camper with much of the way my children were taught science, and it worries me for the future. Edited to add: no conspiracy seems to be needed to cause the sagging state of public education, at least in Oklahoma and Texas. Merely having 23 coaches teaching all the history and biology classes in high school does a pretty fair job of dragging the level down. [ March 21, 2002: Message edited by: Coragyps ]
|

underscore the poor job being done to edumacate the kids about science. Although, perhaps the real issue is not teaching them critical thinking.... |

Well, I'm not going to get into it too much, but to say that the poor quality of textbooks containing so many errors, and those errors being passed on tends to strengthen beleif in evolution for those that don't question what they are taught.
Of course, you see this in other areas as well, such as history. My daughter for instance was left with the impression from her public school history class and textbook that Pearl Harbor was a minor battle in a war that was brought on by both US agression towards Japan in foreign policy and Japan's need for oil, etc,...Gotta show both sides, eh? Basically, public ed is messed up by liberal politics controlling the NEA and the education system. I remember being astonished to learn for instance that Livingston was a missionary. I was taught he was simply an explorer, which totally misrepresents the man's whole life in Africa. [ March 21, 2002: Message edited by: randman ]
|
