It depends a lot on how you approach things; for instance, I think it's pretty clear that repeated pushing at someone who has asked you politely to stop is mean, and thus violates the "love thy neighbor" commandment. Some people will argue "but I want to save him", but it's pretty clear that annoying people isn't a good path to that goal... Basically, I don't have a specific passage in mind; I just seem to recall that there's a lot of stuff telling people not to harass people. Tell 'em what you think, and back off. |

Tell him that you aren't interested in primitive superstition and myth. Give him a copy of Dawkins' "The Blind Watchmaker" and send him on his way.

Lee Strobel and Ravi Zacharias are apparently intelligent and learned fellows who have somehow made themselves more naive with the passage of time. They have come up with moderately creative ways of ignoring facts about the world, but their works inevitably descend into humourous sophistry. Nothing you probably haven't encountered before.

Tell him you've become a Catholic and he'll faint.

From your side, I would recommend he read George Smith's Atheism: The Case Against God and a couple of books from Prometheus, An Anthology of Atheism and Rationalism and The Historial Evidence for Jesus (correct tite?). I suspect that he would never pick either up.

Colossians 4:6 is also a good one. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. |

Hi Joel,
I have a suggestion that you can feel free to take or leave. Whenever I read a book that I find myself disagreeing (sp?) with, I will take a pen and write my refutations to the arguements in the margins. Since I kind of like pseudoscience books (for some crazy reason), my library is filled with books that have my notes scrawled all over them. Why don't you read the books that your father has left out, write your responses in the margins, and let him read those? Of course, they have to be well thought out replies - they can't just be: "Bah!", which is what I've been tempted to write many times. Regards, Walross |

Hi all,
Thanks for all the responses. By the way, does anyone have any recommendations on theistic evolutionist books (not websites) that debunk creationist/IDist arguments? Joel |

Where does the government of Singapore stand on religious issues? Are you in any danger of getting the split bamboo treatment? The Admiral |
