Whatever happened to Acid Rain?
Remember in the mid to late 80's when you couldn't get away from it? Well, why is it not in the news anymore? has is been debunked adn I missed it? Or is it so firmly established as to be passe?
Also what about Nuke power, baby Harbor seals, the whales and other topics that are ignored now? |

Easy.... environmental regs have mostly worked.
You still find acid rain here and there... but since Ronald 'Never Saw An Environmental Law I Couldn't Gut' Reagan left office, things have gotten better. |

Acid rain is still very much a problem. It has just lost luster with the media. Many sections of the Appalachian mountains are still being stressed by acid rain. Every summer the weather station at Big Meadows in Shenandoah National Park records rain events with pH at or below 4. Several streams in the southern district of the park lie over siliciclastic bedrock which has very little buffering capacity. We found pH to average between 4.5 and 5 on some of those streams. Those streams had few fish and the fish that were there were in poor health. Aquatic insect life was also nearly non-existant.

Well the Repubs are still worshipping Reagan, and they're still trying to roll back what little environmental progress we've made.
You do have to admit that it's less of a problem than it used to be. We still have work to do on it, but we've come a long way since the 70's and 80's. |

It was probably YAES (Yet Another Eco-Scare) that went the way of Malthaus and global freezing/warming...

It's real. Try catching fish in the Adirondacks sometime.
