Godspam: where'd it go?
PLEASE HELP! There was a thread about a particular piece of godspam that came via email. I was hoping I wouldn't get it, but I did! Now, I need to find how to reply ... there was a good editorial piece with an awesome reply.
Here is the offending piece: Quote:

how about you respond with,
Freedom of relgion is guarenteed in the constitution, look it up. God is definitely relgioius, including words about god on money, whcih we havent always done and in the pledge which we also havent always done, is in direct violation of that freedom. |

I remember a thread about that, too, but I dunno where or when.
Essentially, you need to point out that the US is not a mob rule democracy, but a constitutional republic. The fact that the majority of people believe in god is no excuse to marginalize the minority and violate the first amendment. It's Unamerican, period. Congress made a law respecting an establishment of religion, and that is wrong, but we've gone and allowed the tyranny of the majority to chip away at the most fundamental principles of our country, and it's nothing short of obscene. The fact that so many idiots are out there defending this decision speaks to the fact that people are idiots, and for the necessity of our constitutional guidelines. Sadly, it seems as thought many people honestly don't understand this basic principle. I know they teach it in grade school, but if they've been ignoring it all their lives, there's little chance they're suddenly going to start paying attention now. |

I think there have been several threads, in fact, on various incarnations of this same argument. But again, I can't promise that I saw exactly that wording. I See A Great Need for a glurge archive. I'd offer, but I don't want to. |

I suspect you might have read an article from the Newswire. I found it (I'd read it) and here it is:
