Question Godspam: where'd it go?

PLEASE HELP! There was a thread about a particular piece of godspam that came via email. I was hoping I wouldn't get it, but I did! Now, I need to find how to reply ... there was a good editorial piece with an awesome reply.

Here is the offending piece:
Quote:
There is a lot of truth in this short paragraph.
We are so concerned about stepping on other people's rights, that we are
giving up our own. One of the programs that I was watching tonight said
that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time
understanding why there is such a mess about having "In God We Trust" on
our money and having God in the pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just
tell the 14% to shut up and sit down????!
If you agree, pass this on; if not, delete.
Please help me find the response!

how about you respond with,

Freedom of relgion is guarenteed in the constitution, look it up. God is definitely relgioius, including words about god on money, whcih we havent always done and in the pledge which we also havent always done, is in direct violation of that freedom.

I remember a thread about that, too, but I dunno where or when.

Essentially, you need to point out that the US is not a mob rule democracy, but a constitutional republic.

The fact that the majority of people believe in god is no excuse to marginalize the minority and violate the first amendment. It's Unamerican, period. Congress made a law respecting an establishment of religion, and that is wrong, but we've gone and allowed the tyranny of the majority to chip away at the most fundamental principles of our country, and it's nothing short of obscene. The fact that so many idiots are out there defending this decision speaks to the fact that people are idiots, and for the necessity of our constitutional guidelines.

Sadly, it seems as thought many people honestly don't understand this basic principle. I know they teach it in grade school, but if they've been ignoring it all their lives, there's little chance they're suddenly going to start paying attention now.

it's not what I was looking for. Lisa, you saw it, right? Mods? Has it been totally deleted? I know it was there just days ago. Maybe not here in GRD, possibly in SL&S, but I've looked there too, and I can't find it. :banghead:

Well, yeah, I think I saw it, but I couldn't guarantee it was verbatim or anything. I sort of recall something about the Pepsi can pledge, and one thread about someone who accidentally hit 'reply all,' if that helps.

I think there have been several threads, in fact, on various incarnations of this same argument. But again, I can't promise that I saw exactly that wording.

I See A Great Need for a glurge archive. I'd offer, but I don't want to.

I suspect you might have read an article from the Newswire. I found it (I'd read it) and here it is:

Freedom of speech doesn't require 51 percent

Quote:
Fifty-seven percent believe abortion should be legal in all or most cases (ABC News poll). Minority, shut up and sit down.
Heh heh.
