Default Pagan Atheism

I for some reason find it helpful to talk to a 'god', even if I think this god is nothing more than a manifestation of my subconscious. It is a helpful way to quickly gather my thoughts, as I make a direct, nonsupernatural request (asking for courage to face something, say) and immediately get an answer that hardly seems to come from me because I do not consciously think of the reply that my mind makes (which is usually in words/organized thoughts). Soon I feel more courageous, or whatever I asked for (assuming its an INTERNAL condition I asked to change) is actualized. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I think I am sort of a Pagan atheist. The gods are metaphors for parts of me, in a way.

I've noticed that if I'm alone and all is quiet, and for some reason I feel troubled, the sound of my own voice makes me feel much better. Turning on a radio just doesn't work, and actually makes the mood worse, as does any other interruption. I discovered this effect quite by accident driving to work very early in the mornings.

There must be something biological going on. It's happened to me too often to be a coincidence, and more than a few people talk with themselves out loud. Causal? Coincidental? Don't know.

(pretty narcissistic when the sound of one's voice can up your mood. But maybe that's why some people never shut up.)

I thought "Pagan Atheism" was simply another word for "Pantheism", or secular nature worship.

triplew00t, have you thought of looking into Carl Jung's writings? I think you'll find a lot of agreement there, especially with Jung's idea of gods as symbols and part of the collective unconscious of mankind.

One of two things. . . .

1. Talking engages your attention.

2. You are a psychopath.

Is Jung similar to Sagan's Dragon's of Eden, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors or Demon Haunted World?

I don't think so. Sagan was a rationalist, Jung was a Gnostic in his views. I only know of Demon Haunted World, and I don't think there's anything Jungian in it. Jung was so steeped in symbolism and irrationalism that he got his own entry on Skepdic.com.
