Post Time to Swap Sides

After much soul searching I have decided that atheism is the one for me. The arguments are just too logically strong and reasoned for me not to conclude that I must abandon my Catholic faith once and for all, and finally turn my back on their risible doctrines.

However this is a major step, and I was wondering if someone could give me some pointers. Is there any form of initiation ceremony involved for instance, only I have an aversion to deep water? Where can I meet up with other Athes? There don’t seem to be any churches in my town.

Somewhat unfortunately, we don't have any churches or other meeting places. If there is one thing I kind of envy from religion it's that they have places to go to meet people of like minds in person.

Though there are a few places for the godless out there, they are far and few between. It's hard to tithe people in the name of no god.

I did the same with the Catholic religion - too much confusion surrounding Mary, praying to saints, priest problems, confession, etc etc etc.... Whats all that stuff for....

And I was smart in rationalizing that "what is the chance that the Catholic religion is the RIGHT one".... I was just born into it.

Then many years later I realized that Christ is the Lord, and it was just tough to see through all of the Catholic stuff (and my youth).

Good Luck.

What's the chance that Christianity is the RIGHT one? You were still born into it?

I used to be RC (which, IMHO, gets a bad rap among Christian denominations) but I am no longer Christian.

I am not going to hijack this thread by asking you what was the basis of you "realizing Christ was the one", but to address the link you are making with Boro Nut's original post, becoming an atheist is not just a matter of letting go of RC teachings for a clearer solution.

I didn't move away from Christianity because of RC teachings. I moved away from Christianity because of Christian teachings. Whether non-RCs want to admit it or not, Christian foundations are basically the same between denominations.

If someone becomes an atheist, they are likely non-plussed with the image of the Judeo-Christian god as a whole.

But I must ask...am I the only one who suspects Boro Nut is being facetious here? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

What a cruel thing to say. I take my religions very seriously. I must admit that being an Athe wasn't my first choice. I originally wanted to join the Jehovas Witnesses, but they wanted me to sign up about 8 days before Christmas and I deparately needed the socks.

In the US we have been very sneaky. We have carefully set up the government to pay to build (and even pay us to go to) our churches. They frequently go by many names, but the more commonly used ones are "Library" (not to be confused with "Libary" - the use of this word indicates an infiltrator) and "University". The great thing is that the other religions never suspect we have the government building our Churches - and just who do you think started the "You can educate yourself right into hell" idea in the first place? It is just another layer of security we have.

To be initiated, just perform the secret handshake at the predetermined time and you will be indoctrinated. Caution, this will require stamina on your part. Athes frequently use their brains, and as a former Christian, you may not have much experience with that.

Sir Nut (weren't you crowned?)

You searched your soul and found atheism?
That is incredible, it must have been a short trip.
Now, as to Athe traveling, you have a lot of foot-work to do (socks included). Well, I have to ammend that, pretty much, once you transform into an Atheist (it isn't too painful, most times) you change your fear of "god(s)" to fear of the people that believe in "god(s)".
You end up running a lot. So, it is best to pretend most of the time you _aren't_ and Atheist so you can benefit from the holidays.

Best of luck Sir Nut!
And always remember Pascal's Disposable Razor Wager (available in 6 packs soon).

Rest assured, at the moment Boro posts something that is not facetious, the whole forum will collectively gasp. Not to worry though, Boro, you provide an irreplaceable service.
