Hmm, I don't think I would like any mainstream-theistic god. Maybe I'm too non-authoritarian for that; even as a little child I considered the Christian God somewhat unpleasant. Deistic or pantheistic gods would be more OK. Perhaps it would be nice, if there were many gods and they quarreled with each other all the time and left us people alone |

It would be nice (although pretty odd) if there was a perfectly good, infinitely powerful God. As long as that means he cares about our happiness and well-being.
I'm not so sure about the Christian God, or Allah, or most of these others. |

God? No. Gods? Heck yeah. But they'd have to be just the right kind. And we'd have to keep 'em in cages or something to keep them from hurting us. I wouldn't mind some of those Hindu gods. Give me Hanuman - a monkey god!
I'd also like to have some of those super heroes from the comic books. Superman would be fun to watch. Better yet, I'd like to BE Superman. But if you have a God that wants me to worship it, save it. Also, I got no time for hell or other kinds of Godly torture. [Just as an aside, I've always thought that shit was a pretty good argument against an all powerful God. It seems to me we would be a whole lot more efficient if we didn't have to poop.] |

I would like gods who disagree with each other and appear sporadically one time or another. It would actually be kind of fun...especially if they have lavish festivals/art competitions to boost.
The monotheistic god? Boring, hopelessly boring. Plus at least in the Roman Pagan world we can choose whichever gods we want to worship, according to our own character and preferences. One god just does not hold up in this regard. |

I wanted GOD to be REAL so that there could be justice to all. Where every wrong is punished to the correct extent and every right is rewarded proportionately. Then we needn't have had the judicial systems and more importantly Lawyers. Also i don't understand why GODS of all religions want us to pray?? |

That was one of the things I was most bitter about when I first dealt with leaving theism. I *wanted* God to be real, but it wasn't. And I wanted to believe in it anyway, because it's easier to accept somebody else's rules, move on, and not have to ponder deep ethical questions anymore. But no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't disregard all the reasons I had not to fall for theism.
So yeah, I know the boat you're in. |
