I'll give my plug to the article that Helen posted the link for, since I read it yesterday, and it was the first thing I thought of when reading the start of this thread. It's good reading. So of course you see why the Xians would want to try and pass it back off to the pagans. They (the Xians) started it, it got out of hand, and now they're passing the buck. Or in the case of the Hell Houses, they're using it to push their own propaganda.
As it was, I got spend over an hour, at dinner time no less, after work with my son at the doctor's office, to find out he's got an ear infection. He's almost 2 and been just miserable the last day or two. Anyway, got him some medicine and he slept well last night and seems much better today. |

For what it's worth, you might want to check out historian John King's book The Celtic Druids' Year. He has a good section on Samhain, and explains that the word itself comes from ancient Gaelic words which meant "Summer's End." He also does a good job of debunking the usual fundy lies about it.
