Shepherd Lennon
Richard Gerard Lennon was tasked to replace Cardinal Law.
He said that he would "work towards healing as a church...and be a good shepherd..." I say that Richard Lennon, no relations whatsoever with the great John Lennon, will ultimately failed. The whole problem of the Catholic Church lies in that one word--shepherd. People are not sheep. And if Catholic priests continue to see themselves as shepherd and their followers as sheep, then the abuses will continue. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Let's try to think of this words deeply, Theist and Atheists alike. |

Bingo. No matter how many personnel changes they do, the institution itself is hierarchical and authoritarian. As such it will inevitably be more concerned with the preservation of the institution than with its stated goals or supposed beneficiaries.

If the believers really consider themselves as sheeps, there's something wrong with their psychology. "The meek shall inherit the earth" is so full of venom and instinct of revenge, it suggests a mind stricken with envy.
The Pagans had a lot of pride out of their earthly accomplishments, in contrast to people who were oppressed at the time and good-for-nothing. The philosophy of Christianity satisfied exactly the herd instinct by imagining themselves the exclusive selection (lamb) in Heaven, thus punishing the Pagans in their mind (Early Christian apologist Tertullian composed a fanstastic, eloquent, beautifully wrought piece of resentment about the "pleasure" of Christians seeing Pagans in Hell). For a more lengthy and detailed discussions, see Nietzsche's "On the Geneology of Morals", First essay, section 14 and 15, where this theory came from. |

Philechat has a very interesting post. It reminded me of the danger of meekness and cowardice.
Some people find it surprising that the Jews, who have experienced centuries of oppression, should now do the same thing on the Palestinians. I am not a least bit surprised. The Jewish have only themselves to blame for centuries of oppression; instead of standing up to oppression, they fool themselves into believing that "no people are more chosen than the people who are perpetually beaten." And so it goes on for centuries, they believe it as natural...part of their 'being chosen.' However, they also believe that it is only natural for them to avenge their sufferings. Not on the enemy, for they are long dead, but on anyone weaker than them. And so goes the onslaught of the properties and lives of the Palestinian people. And this warning rings more truly now than ever: Beware of the meek and coward for they are either on their knees or on your kneck. |
