Elizabeth Smart
Kinda on topic. Just googling around to see what the "psychics" were saying about her just a few months ago...
[1] [quote] "We started reading on Liz about a week after she was gone. Our readings had her alive for a few weeks, driving around in Wyoming, hiding out. We called our in to the Salt Lake Police every few days as well as to the FBI. Our readings finally said she was choked and her body was dumped in Boysen Lake State Park in Wyoming." I bet the FBI and the SLC police were both equally pleased to get regular updates from these clowns. [2] [quote] "A group of psychics told police they were sure missing 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart could be found entombed in a crypt in the foothills above Salt Lake City." [3] [quote] "In the silence of night, there has has been HUMAN SACRIFICE" Well, that was certainly helpful. [4] [quote] "She believes the kidnapper is not a friend or a family member, but someone who had been watching the girl at home for the past two weeks -- possibly from a white van parked outside the house. She said the man had never spoken with Elizabeth before kidnapping her and had not been inside her house." Wrong on so many levels... [5] [quote] "I just want you to listen to me. Elizabeth alone just me." This poem sent to me by Elizabeth Smart from Heaven" Are the voices in my head bothering you? |

Simply astounding! I will never understand how people can remain sketpical of psychics when the proof of their powers is everywhere.

What's better is how the family and community immediately attribute everything to God, miracles, and prayer. Yeah, obviously the police and massive media coverage had nothing to do with it whatsoever.

Yeah, too bad presidents can't get that...all the praise when things go right and none of blame when things go wrong.
How was it "God's Plan" to have a 13 year old kidnapped and used as a sex slave by two demented bums? I want no part of a God who plans such things. |

Addendum: I do believe that the family is justified in attributing her recovery to God, miracles, and prayer. It is those things that helped keep their community together. |

Let's not forget one of the more interesting and disquieting aspects of this story:
How was the guy able to get her out of the house without a struggle; keep her for 8 months in various locations she was familiar with , one being within a block of a police station; and she not make any attempt at all to foil the scheme? The only answer I can conclude is this: She is Mormon. She is pre-brainwashed. He only needed to tweak her program a bit. Ed |

On a somewhat related topic, Bill O'Reilly was blathering his usual invective on the local hate radio station last night. He was interviewing some psychologist or something about the kidnapping and claimed he could never be brainwashed himself, short of torture. He's also admittedly religious. So this just exposes his hypocrisy (stupidity?) even more. |

Smart's return "miraculous"
It really does piss me off that the girl's kinfolk, neighbors et al are announcing that Elisabeth's return is "miraculous". To be sure, probably all this means is that none of them understands what the words *miracle/miraculous* MEAN. And besides , if a "miracle" happens to you/yours, that really makes you very SPECIAL, doesn't it? >>>> "Gott mit UNS."

This topic doesn't have much science in it, so I'm going to send it off to MD.
