Cool Think this guy's on his way to being a freethinker?

Thought this article form CNN was amusing:

<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/05/08/ireland.priest/i" target="_blank">Heresy charge Irish priest quits.</a>

He's Anglican. If he'd announced he didn't believe in God they would have made him Bishop of Durham. Whoops, no. The Bishop of Durham doesn't believe in God either. They would have made him Bishop of somewhere else.

"I don't believe the traditional understanding of Christmas, that God took human form and was born as a babe in Bethlehem," he told Reuters in an interview last December.
I don't understand why this is such a big deal. A priest can still be a priest, believe in God AND Jesus - and not believe in the traditional understanding of Christmas. Hell - it would be the smart thing to do. I was not aware that the Anglican church was so "all or nothing" when it came to dogma...look at Bishop John Shelby Spong!

You know, Jesus did say something about people falling away from the faith (i.e. believing in Jesus etc.). In fact there would be people arising to deceive people from the faith:
Matt 24:4-5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Matt 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Matt24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Actually, shouldn't this guy convert to becoming Jewish? (Seriously... isn't that a prime difference between Jewish and Catholic?)

Did you read the article? This (ex)priest isn't claiming he's Christ, or the son of god. Here's merely claiming that he doesn't believe that Jesus Christ was actually god incarnate.
