Has anybody here read or heard of "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsch?

I think Walsch comes as close to describing a God who makes sense as I've seen. (Not that I don't have difficulty with some of the concepts in the books, such as his explanation for the existence of suffering. That, and such aspects of the works as his descriptions of scientific matters, sound like the work of a subconsious mind that wants very badly to make sense of the universe. Still, there is a lot that resonates for me.)

Thanks for the reply. Generally when I want to read a book I buy it but I think I'll check the public library first on this one.

Yes. The first and third volumes. You only need to buy the first book only as it contains most of his ideas. The third is an elaboration/variation of the first.

His explanation of God and His ways applies to the modern era but seems rooted in Buddhism and a little of Gnostic Christianity. Of course it is not proof of God's existence but if you subscribe to the philosophy you'd become a very decent person, reasonable but a bit odd compared to other people.

It was my BIBLE when I was going through my questioning-Christianity phase. Is a good compromise between the black-and-white of the Bible and the flowy new-age movement.

It's not a bad philosophy, so to speak - but fiction, nonetheless.
