Talking God does not protect Mormon missionaries

From this Washington Post article:

Quote:
The Mormon Church said Wednesday it has temporarily stopped sending missionaries to Hong Kong as a precaution against SARS, and those already on the streets here are wearing masks and avoiding contact such as handshakes. None of Hong Kong's 30,000 Mormons are known to have caught SARS.
Just found this a bit ironic. Apparently the Mormons don't have any faith that God will protect their tender young missionaries from this disease while they're doing his/her/its work.

*sigh* I guess the days when people mindlessly had faith in the power of god are gone. *sigh*

Well, of course not. Hong Kong is in Asia, a realm that is outside Yahweh's area of greatest influence.

Similarly, it's all right for Christians to pray for themselves instead of the people starving in Africa. Yahweh is only a Western god, people, not a god of the whole world.

Actually, God doesn't say He will protect us from all the plagues of the world. We are sinners, in a fallen corrupted world, and we have to deal with the consequences. He never said it would be easy. And Mormonism is a cult, not Christian.

Don't let the fact that he would watch you die horribly of ebola detract from the truth that he loves you, right?

All right, I've had enough of this - Time to pony up, Magus. Define a "true Christian", since you are so fond of this redundant, annoying "no true Scotsman" variation.

I have started a thread here to address that.

By what measure? There are many more Mormons than there are Eastern Orthodox Church members. But Eastern Orthodox are considered to be Christians and not a cult. Yet their doctrines are farther from Protestants' and Roman Catholics' than Mormon doctrines (i.e. no doctrine of Trinity in EO Church, but Mormons share this doctrine with Protestants and the RC), and the EO membership is far smaller than that of the LDS church, and many other groups called cults by US Christians.

So what gives?

Seems like an extremely incompetent being -- or a very punitive one.

Ummph. From http://www.adherents.com/adh_branches.html I got the following numbers of adherents:

Orthodox/Eastern Christian 240,000,000
Latter Day Saints 11,500,000

These are from 1990's, I think.
