I know there was a thread on this last year and I swear I searched for it but I can't find it. At the time I wasn't eligible to join but now I am.
Anyway I'm looking for the experiences of non-theists who are unmarried and not in committed relationships. In 15 years I've only dated one other bona fide atheist. The others were a practicing Conservative Jew, a practicing Christian (went to an ELCA church but did not consider herself Lutheran), one non-practicing Christian, and several agnostic/pantheist/"there's something out there"/"I don't think about it much" women. I used to get into arguments with the Jewish woman all the time. It started on Yom Kippur when she was complaining about being hungry. "No one's making you fast," I said and we got into it from there. She didn't understand atheism and was defensive about being Jewish because she grew up in a predominantly Christian town and her high school had a big "Young Life" (xtian youth semi-cult) chapter. Plus we were both 18 and liked to argue. The non-practicing Christian wanted to raise her kids in church. She didn't seem to have a problem with my atheism, but when I asked her what she would do if one of her kids didn't believe in God she said she'd be sad. It was never gonna happen with the practicing Christian but the sex was decent. That's my story. I'm interested in hearing from the other single people on this board. And if you're a woman in your late 20s to mid 30s send me a pm ![]() |

I haven't had too much experience with relationships, at least not long term relationships.
My first girlfriend was in university. She was an agnostic and I met her in unversity residence. It didn't last very long though, but I had a lot of fun going out and snuggling with her on a sofa watching movies. ![]() ![]() I also had a wild fling last year. It was only a week.... but a week I'll remember for the rest of my life. ![]() ![]() Otherwise, I'm perpetually single. I'm an acquired taste for most women. ![]() |

The last time I had sex was with a fellow atheist -- a terrific, charming person whose personality is so wildly different from mine there's no chance we could have a relationship. Too bad, because she's got a lot of good qualities and we get along great.
Otherwise, i've bounced through an assortment of 'ships, though none with practicing Christians; two pagans, a Jew, and one who was effectively a deist. In no case was it any kind of religious difference that split us apart; with the pagans, especially, it was a lot of fun hashing out our various differences. All of them got atheism. In that regard I've been lucky. Though since I'm no longer dating any of them, not in too many other regards, unfortunately. Ah well. Any smart and funny female Infidels in MD, give me a buzz . . . A subject that I'm quite interested in, being 40 and divorced...
I've dated quite a bit since my separation (3 1/2 years ago) and divorce (2 1/2 years ago) but I think only one or two of those women would have described themselves as atheists. One was a fairly conservative Christian. About the most I can hope for here in Wisconsin is finding someone who is vaguely deist--someone who'll say she 'believes in a higher power' or something like that. There seems to be very few atheist or agnostic women here in Wisconsin. Rather surprising, since Madison is headquarters of the FFRF. They have no local activities, unfortunately. On the other hand, I grew up in CA, and was dating there from the time I was 17 (1979) to when I moved away in '95. By far the majority of women I dated then were atheists or agnostics. It was rarely an issue at all. I can only recall one woman who was a conservative Christian, who I didn't date because she was one of those women into 3-way relationships. No, unfortunately, not THOSE kinds of 3-way relationships. She meant the type of 3-way where God is the other one in bed with us. :banghead: I'm still hoping to meet a nice young woman to have a family with, but I've mostly given up. I'm just trying to be happy as a single guy for now. -Kelly |

I doubt very seriously that I will be able to find anything resembling an atheist here where I live...
I'm recently separated and waiting on the paperwork (almost down to counting the DAYS) to get finished and them I'm legally free again, and won't go the theist route if I can help it. I am still of child bearing age (mid 30s), but plan on not bearing any children (yes, I'm a girly fish) and will soon have that decision made permanent. I think the only way I will find a companion is to leave my home state. Companion is also just fine...(I've always wanted to explain to the family that I"m living in sin with someone ![]() ![]() -k 'what's a date?' |
