The answer is biased by the question.

How would one answer if we asked, "What meaning is given to life?"

When one asks, "What is the meaning of life" I am not even sure what qualifies as an answer in the category of acceptable answers.

That is, a question usually suggests the category what an acceptable answer might be.

If I ask, "Who is the president of the United States?" And you answer, "Osama Bin Laden" then we could note that this is int he category of possible answers but its a false answer. If we answer, "a redwood forest" then we reject the answer CATERGORICALLY.

Likewise, for "what is square root of 2349108.75629"?
I answer 1499.3245 and this is both in the category of answers but I'm not sure if its wrong unless I calculate, look up, or obtain the answer in some systemitized manner. I answer, "maybe" because it is in the category of answers but I'm not sure if it is or not.

If I answer, "George Bush" then I know immegiately its not the answer because of category.

So when asked, "What is the meaning of life" I throw up my hands because I cannot identify even the correct category of answer... let alone the answer itself.

A poem about butterflies, I want you to write a poem about butterflies...
Actually, that would fall under either "play" or "work."

Now, if Laurentius was asking me why I enjoy those things, I can only reply that I just do. It is a brute fact of my existence that I enjoy those things. One could of course provide a detailed explanation in terms of my genetics and environment extending back to the beginning of the universe, but I don't think it would have much bearing on the meaning of life.

I think the issue has been blown out of proportion I mean, what is meant by meaning anyways?

For me meaning, means drive and such, so what drives humans?

Wants, needs, desires and/or values. That to me represents the meanings of life.

My only fear is that life won't be long enough for all the living I want to do.

Shit, I have...places to visit, people to meet, a hubby to love, family to spend time with, books to read, movies to watch, music to listen to, wine to drink, foods to try, things to learn, things to teach, dogs to pet, goals to set, goals to reach, work to do, flowers to smell, people to help and on and on.

I certainly don't have time to mope around wondering what it all"means"

And perhaps you spend so much time chasing these goals that you never take the time to stop and enjoy life.
Life is short. Whatever you do, you're going to miss out on something.

Life is tragic simply because the earth turns and the sun inexorably rises and sets, and one day, for each of us, the sun will go down for the last, last time. Perhaps the whole root of our trouble, the human trouble, is that we will sacrifice all the beauty of our lives, will imprison ourselves in totems, taboos, crosses, blood sacrifices, steeples, mosques, races, armies, flags, nations, in order to deny the fact of death, which is the only fact we have.

Theli...I meant I DO enjoy life every day...there is so much to enjoy I think its a waste to worry about some extra ultimate meaning.
