Default Flat-Earthers: do they exist?

I see creationists, especially the YEC variety, being compared to the Flat Earth movement. Now, personally I don't think that there is a Flat Earth society, and I think most of the time when such a comparison is voiced it's probably done in jest. However, occasionally I see pro-evolution folks referring to flat-earthers as if there really is/was such a thing... hmm. Has the flat earth society, or equivalent, ever existed? Who's the latest person you can name who seriously believed in flat Earth?

Yes their was a Flat Earth Society. The guy who ran it for years died a some years back. Every few years or so someone in the media will interview someone from it.

Now the Flat Earth Society is an extreme fringe and extreme minority. It has no significant impact on anything.

Here is an article about the Flat Earth Society, formerly run by Charles K. Johnson. Flat-Earthers really do exist - sometimes you can even find one posting on internet forums.

Does anyone know if the Flat Earth Society is still around, or if it dissolved after the president died?

This site is obviously a parody. From their FAQ:
Quote:
11. Does this fit in with the Hollow Earth theory?

Yes. Beneath the Earth, or hanging off the edges, is a land populated by either green-skinned women or Nazis. All those claiming to have seen this have misinterpreted it to fit in with the spurious and false Spherical Earth theory.

(...)

13. What about gravity?

(...)
There is a school of thought which states, however, that the Earth does not move through space, but rather that it rests on the back of a giant turtle, and that what we call gravity is, in fact, the turtle's animal magnetism.

(...)

19. What is the "Springfield Effect"?

The Springfield Effect is the name given to the phenomenon by which every place named Springfield is hard-linked in hyperspace to every other place of this name. In other words, there is only one place named Springfield, but it is "linked" to various locations in the world.
And so on.
