Default Incest and the bible

Is incest a so called sin, referring to the incident with lots daughters.

I think lot and his daughters were sickos not Gods chosen people.

You may say that they had no choice because they had to populate the earth.

Populating the earth through incest pose many problems because if the incest goes on for generations the offspring will be born sick or deformed.

Try this with two hamsters.By the twelveth generation they will be born sick or deformed.

Populating the earth this way cannot happen and did not.

You should prologue your question with some clarifying points.

Do you AS A NON_ATHEIST believe that there was no choice, that they had to populate the world etc. And you must also understand, that the mind that believes god populated an entire planet from two people's dna, will have no problem adopting that to lot and family, and will come up with a divine reason why genetic mutation did NOT occur. But then again, it's hoping for a brick to hit your forehead for the whole thing anyway isn't it.:banghead:

Don't know anything about in-breeding nor it's effects but the story illustrates the truth that a Godly person can do things which are very wrong. Remember he was drunk at the time!! Imagine how many children have been conceived under the influence of alcohol.

Inbred populations have higher incidences of genetic diseases.

Marry your cousins too many times and you'll start accumulating bad genes. No body wants that.

What I'm really interested in is why it is important that a Godly person can do things which are very wrong. What is this demonstrating? That even godly people are not perfect?

I think that this incestuous-conception story is intended as a putdown of certain of ancient Israel's neighbors -- the Ammonites and the Moabites. We are also told that they can never be proper citizens:

Deut.23:3-6
3 No Ammonite or Moabite or any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the LORD , even down to the tenth generation. 4 For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim [2] to pronounce a curse on you. 5 However, the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you. 6 Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.
(NIV, from The Bible Gateway)

How about the inbreeding that must have occurred between Adam, Eve, and their immediate offspring? (where did Mrs. Cain come from?)

If I were a creationist, I would say that the genetic material of A and E was uncorrupted and it was OK for thier offspring to comingle to populate the earth.

Yes, I realize it makes no sense, but I didn't make it up.

I think that the whole incident does illustrate that God keeps a hold of us-even when we do things wrong. A great comfort for the Christian to know this.
