Default The 10 Commandments- Historical?

Seems like it's pretty common to allow the posting of the 10 commandments under the reasoning that they are "historical", not religious.
But I'm wondering, how significant are the 10 commandments from that stance? Only about half of them aren't religous in nature, and certainly not unique. I'd say that saying "Don't kill or steal" is pretty meaningless, as far as legal history goes. Is there any evidence that the Founding Fathers were influenced by the 10 commandments?

(Laurie) This topic might be better on the Moral Foundations & Principles board.

Before you start this topic again, take a look at these prior threads:

How is the US Constitution a result of "Christian principles"?

How does the US Constitution find its origin in the Bible?

and this older one:

Judeo/Christian Origins of the Constitution

although you will notice that it is hard to have a serious discussion on this without degenerating into sarcasm.
