Random thoughts. I was an exotic dancer for two years, and though not exactly prostitution....many people feel it's close.
Some guys had very low self esteem and would start feeling like losers because they couldn't hook up with any girls in the real world....those guys would treat the dancers like shit...as excreationist said, it gave them a feeling of superiority for a couple of hours. I imagine prostitutes also get these same types of clients. Some guys expected all dancers to be of below average intelligence (got news for ya guys....I worked with an attorney, several medical students, and about 30% had degrees or were paying for school), or were trailer trash and thought it was funny to try to humiliate them. Many many people in this world are such bitter, lonely, hateful monsters they treat everyone they can like shit. Waiters/waitresses, the person at the dry cleaners, cashiers at a store etc are all victims of these assholes (because most of these jobs forbid fighting back).....pathetic really. |

But not a comment on the occupations themselves or the practitioners. The behaviour only comments on the asshole in question.

I have a nurse friend who drives to Nevada every weekend. I'm jealous of her Mercedes!

The problems associated with prostitution stem directly from the fact that it is illegal and thus forced out of the light of day. Once something is criminalized, the most likely persons to be attracted to and monopolize such enterprises WILL be the criminally-minded because no one will be watching {unless X politician wants to score "morality points" or X police precinct needs to get the old arrest/conviction record up at budget time). It is like saying homosexuals can't be in sensitive government jobs because their "dirty little secret' could used as lever (blackmail) for obtaining government secrets. If some people didn't try to make homosexuality into a crime in the first place, there would be no need to worry about being used against someone in the second place. What really gets my goat is that tax money is being spent on arresting prostitutes and in some cases their clients. Spend the money on going after robbers, murderers, child-molesters, rapists, in other words, let's concentrate on the truly criminal. Arresting prostitutes is really stupid away. It's like putting the horse that ran a fixed race in jail. |

It's the American thing I guess.
Disturbing though. I personally don't have a problem with it. Unless the prostitute was spreading STD's or something purposely. |

Legalising prostitution allows the govt. to regulate it and institute safety protocalls. Liscenced prostitutes would submit to regular testing for disease and everyone would be alot safer.

Prostitution would have no place in society if women would just put out.

Why should it be illegal to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away?
