Post Could a ship the size of the ark exist?

I know this is a really stupid question but anyeone someone on another board this gem:

PUT DOWN THE COFFEE! LOSS OF KEYBOARDS IS YOUR OWN PROBLEM!!!

Quote:
"actually ships like aircraft carriers are about the size of the ark. lotsa room. no windows so all the animals would hibernate."

Ignoring that animals generally don't hibernate simply because there are no windows, my question is about the actual size of the ark being possible.

Dimensions of ark. 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high!

Air Craft Carriers <a href="http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/carriers/canada.htm" target="_blank">http://www.hazegray.org/navhist/carriers/canada.htm</a>

Yes, I know that the building material is different, but some of the sizes are pretty close to the size of the ark. So would building the ark be possible or is the material used that important.

It's stupid I know but I'm just curious.

From <a href="http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-meritt/flood.html" target="_blank">here</a>:
Quote:
In addition, the structural soundness of the ark was extremely questionable since, according to ship-building authorities, there was an upper limit of about 300 feet on the length of wooden ships, beyond which they were subject to 'hogging' or 'sagging'. Moore again,

"The largest wooden ships ever built were the six-masted schooners, nine of which were launched between 1900 and 1909. These ships were so long that they required diagonal iron strapping for support; they "snaked" or visibly undulated, as they passed through the waves, they leaked so badly they had to be pumped constantly, and they were only used on short coastal hauls because they were unsafe in deep water."

The longest six master, the U.S.S. Wyoming, was only 329 feet long, yet we are presented with the image of an ark well over 100 feet longer having to cope with the most severe conditions imaginable.
Also keep in mind that the Bible expects a handful of people to both maintain this impractically large vessel and a horde of animals on board. It's a ridiculous idea.

I guess the material really does matter then. Thanks.

This is gonna sound even more stupid. Eternal level stupid. But there goes anyway.

Bears won't hibernate just because you put em in a room with no windows right?

I'm sure the answer is no but I'm no biologist and I'd like to be sure.

yes, and he's also infernally clever, able to hide all evidence of a 6-day creation, along with the global deluge, for reasons that still elude me.

Also remember that the six masted ships were made of oak and ash. These are hardwood. The ark was supposed to be made of Gopher wood which is a cypress, an evergreen tree. Theses are soft wood.
Gopher wood was used for small row boats and coffins.
But you can't build anything really large and hollow out of it. It just isn't strong enough.
Unless you filled about 3/4 of the insides with cross bracing the Ark would collapse from it's own weight.

i know, i know, i'm a sinner who's going to burn in hell forever, along with every other good-hearted and compassionate, loving person who made the bad choice of not worshipping christ. yup, all the monsters repent and go to heaven, and all the nice people who use their brains go to hell. such a charming God.

Nope...requires a combination of diet, temperature, and an intrinsic circannual rhythm.

Locking a bear in a room is a good way to make him mad, though.
