Well online forums and professional wrestling. By watching WWE, I get less and less surprised by the absolute idiocy of people.

What bothers me the most is their answer never changes. Even if you put 100 hrs into a post that explictly not only confirmed but in complete simplicity explained how they were wrong, they default back to their original "God did it" BS. To believe in a god is one thing. I'd even say its reasonable. However, to believe what they believe with absolutely nothing as proof except excerpts from David Jordan's or Kent Hovind's website, is pure insanity. Worse yet, they all vote ultra conservative.

In this thread:

<a href="http://www.baptistboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000151" target="_blank">http://www.baptistboard.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=48;t=000151</a>

Murphy has been cutting out almost everything Johnv says. He has posted verses in the Koran that refute what the extremists say, and they have been deleted. Johnv responded with this:

"This is the third post that has been deleted, yet none of the deleted posts contain falsehoods."

Meaning, all he's been doing is quoting from what the Koran actually says. Murphy responds with:

******I have deleted no posts but I have edited remarks that I felt were not of a christian spirit. I deny your claim that all you have said in defense of islam has been truthful, there is only one truth. It is found in the Bible not the koran. Murph *****

Also in this thread:

<a href="http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=000382" target="_blank">http://www.baptistboard.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=18;t=000382</a>

Candide was attacked on 3 separate occasions, the most vicious of all:

"The plight of the poor must be a source of amusement to you. If you cannot use someone for your political ends and you are a liberal, you just turn your back and deny the truth. Just forget people in the ditch if they are not going to agree with you, huh?"

A comment which makes absolutely no sense. Candide was merely saying that neither side in the Columbian situation is worthy of American support. That attack was by nom. Will made two separate attacks. So, Candide responds with:

"Uh, er, takes one to know one."

And with that comment, the thread is shut down because Candide resorted to attacks. <img src="graemlins/banghead.gif" border="0" alt="[Bang Head]" />

It's not so bad that there are people that believe weird things. What concerns me is that they are getting others to join them, to the point where it is affecting the schools, politics and public discourse. When you think about it, it is fascinating that it is happening at all. Makes you wonder what must be going on in society to make people prefer fairy tales to reality. Perhaps it isn’t about god, love or peace or any of the other things the religious are so keen to spout as the benefit of religion, maybe it is all about power, and those that control the minds of the most people are the winners.

Well, if everything that is inconsistent (or even inconsistant) with a literal interpretation of scripture is taken down, how on earth can they even talk about evolution? The whole notion of evolution is inconsistent with a literal interpretation of scripture.

Now C.S. Murphy posts, "Also show where someone have made false representations of islam." It's kind of hard for JohnV to show that because every time he does, C.S. Murphy deletes his post. Talk about a new twist on <a href="http://facts4god.faithweb.com/thelist.html" target="_blank">Argumet 136</a>.

Credit where it's due - despite her effort just prior, I love this post from "Chrysoprasus":

Woa, that's some extreme shite you got there buddy.

What a deluded person. What a sorry, pathetic, indescribably amusing example of human folly.

I love it. I could just experience that sort of person my whole life and I would never get tired of it.

Question

Can anyone tell me what an "arminian" is and how that differs from a "Calvinist"?

Seems strange to me that Calvinism is treated like a cult by Christians.

I know nothing of the Baptist world.
