Question Question about the "great flood"

I've had a theory for a while: The great flood mentioned in Genesis was actually a local, rather than global event that was greatly exaggerated.

Is there any data to support this, and perhaps more importantly, what is the vessel that is located in the upper reaches of Mt. Ararat and how did it get there?

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

What caused you to drop it? You might want to do a search on "flood'. There was no vessel.

There is a vessel on Mt. Ararat only in people's imaginations spurred on by wishful thinking. It "got there" through a wide stretch of several people's imaginations and widespread credulity among the public.

You searched where?
You found what theories?
You adjudged them to be enlightening based on what criteria?

According to my research, there was no global flood. It was most likely localized flooding of the Tigris-Euphrates as no evidence of a global flood exists.

However, there does appear to be a boat on the mountain, but it's far too small to hold every life on the planet. And even the bible contradicts itself on the number and the variety of life that went into the ark. It even contradicts itself on the length of the deluge.

Long story short: The great flood story is an exaggeration.

The best explanation for the flood myth that I have seen was put forth in a book entitled Noahs Flood by Bill Ryan and Walter Pittman. It seems that some 7500 years ago the present day Black Sea was an inland freshwater lake. The Mediterranean burst through at the Strait of Bosporous (sp) and inundated the entire area within a few years.

There is a downloadable Adobe Acrobat map of the area <a href="http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0105/pdf/feature3_map.pdf" target="_blank">here</a>.

Also, there is a National Geographic article about Dr. Bob Ballard's expedition to the Black Sea <a href="http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0105/feature3/index.html" target="_blank">here</a>.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. I'm kind of short on time right now. I'll look over this when I get home from work.
