faith and the atheist[scientist}
Im posting this here because the secular web revere's science and equates it with the exclusion of faith.
Im using the word trust in place of faith. It a given that belief in God thru trust is not a valid method of knowing whether God exists for the secular web. However I do believe that we need to trust,whether we are atheists agnostics or believers,just to live our daily lives Any challenges to this claim? |

Do you equate faith (or trust), for example, in science with faith in the supernatural?

The difference between trust in a god, and trusting that, for example, your car will start when you turn the key, is that we have never seen a god before, whereas the car starts almost every time. If trust is based on prior experience, it is far more reasonable than if it is based on blind faith.

Your not answering my question.
Would any one challenge the claim that trust is required by all of us just to live our lives,whether it be in the realm of relationships,work ,using public transportation,etc. and etc. Im not likening trust in God to the trust that I believe life requires of us,Im not equating the two. Do you believe that with out trust our lives,our functioning lives ,would be virtually impossible? |

Faith is unearned; believers feel themselves to be superior when their faith continues unshaken even when the evidence is against it. The unanswered prayer, for some reason, seems to increase people's faith. HW |

Hmmmmmm, let's see. Trust and skeptics, what do they have to do with each other? Oh I get it. You think that a-theists think like christians. Where did you get that idea?

Happy wonderer has it right on. Let me give you an example.
I've been with my girlfriend for five years. We've had our relationship tested many times. The first time I met her, I wouldn't have had any trust in her intentions or actions. After a year with her, we had developed a decent amount of trust. After five years, we've developed a much larger amount of trust. You could say I have faith in our relationship, but it'd probably be misusing the word. That trust was hard-won over 5 years. However, Joe Blow I don't have much trust in (no more than I would give the average human being). I have no prior experience with Joe Blow, don't know what they might do or why. It's just a matter of experience and confirmation. |

Definitions (mine at least):
Faith = belief without reason Trust = belief with reason Yes, we need to trust things to survive on a daily basis. But we have good reasons to have that trust. We trust that our vehicles work because of past experience with them. We trust that new vehicles will work because the engineers who create them are working on sound, proven principles. We trust the laws of physics because of the many, many ways one can demonstrate, repeatably, reliably, convincingly, their usefulness. |
