Thumbs down Print Media 's role in promoting Churchianity!

The print media 's subtle ways of promoting the permanent cause of marketing Jesus and his clones. Below are a few letters I wrote to that Church's monthly digest otherwise known as Reader's Digest:

1.Much as one would not like to hurt the feelings of the dead Iranian twins, their sad end of Ladan and Laleh after the unsuccessful operation by the "true Christian" Dr. Goh would hopefully put an end to the pernicious practice of promoting Christianity in the true stories coloured by Readers Digest's church beliefs. Will you now write another story about this unsuccessful operation and term Dr. Goh a "True Christian" when you come to the sad end of the Iranian twins? I distinctly remember that you forgot to mention the other equally proficient Dr. who separated the Nepales twins did not earn the comment "True Buddhist/or whatever religion he belonged to. Why?

I am specifically referring to the practice of RD to categorise any successful operation or work as that of a "True Christian" when performed by a man who was accidentally a Christian by belief. Why don't you use this adjective against criminals like Mussolini/Hitler/Bush etc Actually a true Christian to a proud Heathen/Pagan like me is one who kills in the name of a self appointed messiah of doubtful IQ. So please stop promoting the stupid beliefs of Churchianity.

2. Quite sometime ago they ran an opinion poll in India to hurt the feelings of the Hindu majority by trashing one of their most treasured festival (much akin to the Halloween). here was my response:

"It is common knowledge Readers Digest is the thin edge of the Christian wedge. All articles somehow have the Christian themes in mind. Your opinion poll on Diwali is a case in point. Why not have a poll on say:

Slaughtering Turkeys on Christmas day is:Cruelty of the vilest form:
1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Can't say since you don't know if there was a Christ at all!

In another opinion poll you can ask:
In your opinion, isn't the belief of mass genocide of herbivores on Bakr-Id lead to a heaven filled with nubile virgins and pearl like boys?
1. Stupid
2. Extremely Stupid.
3. Barbaric.

One more opinion poll on Mother Teresa, Was Mother Teresa in your opinion a evil rabid communalist?
1. Yes
2. No but she was a lunatic.
3. Can't say as she was mentally challenged!

Stop your proselytising ways. You bunch of Macoolies RD columnists. (A Macoolie carries Lord Macaulay's burden only, not that of anyone else, and tries to civilize his pagan neighbours as the great Lord planned. The title "Lord" given to the Macoolie signifies that the fellow in question is accepted as a loyal coolie by Macaulay and elevated to the British peerage.)

I suspect this is lifted from a post at another website, but I cannot find it anywhere. It certainly reads like a reply to another post. ekalavyak, please reconsider what you're doing before you post again.

Aren't you too clever by half. Try and locate it. Isn't that we are not capable of thinking?

Every word of it is mine. I hope vestiges of Christian thought processes is not making you write this

Sorry, but I missed the day that it became illegal for a magazine to promote a Christian viewpoint. I mean, I don't care for that viewpoint, I realize Reader's Digest has it, so I don't read Reader's Digest.

If you're looking for a secular view, may I suggest the New Scientist?

Your snide tone is inappropriate in this forum. Considering your history of pasting entire articles into a post, W@L was perfectly justified in questioning your source.

Your nauseating implication is noted. What made him write it was your posting multiple threads of plagiarized material (here, for instance, and here).

I am thus far distinctly unimpressed with your demeanor, sir. I strongly suggest you read the Forum Rules and Policies closely and curb your hostility.

Angry My problem

My problem is with the starting premise of this post:

That: ANYONE with at least three functioning brain cells would READ Reader's Indigestion, let alone consider it an unbiased source of information.

It's just as right wing Christian as Guideposts, which makes me wanna barf.

When I was a kid, I read Reader's Indigestion at my grandparents house, because there was nothing to read but The Progressive Farmer, The Cattleman, and RI.

My dad would rip it out of my hands and toss it across the room (Reader's Indigestion).

You could do far better if you want a general news magazine.

The philosophy of Reader's Indigestion is summed up in this quote:

"Every problem has a solution that is neat, simple and wrong."

----Henry Louis Mencken, the Sage of Baltimore
