A Challenge to Moral Vegetarians, Objectivists, or Whatever
As the A Challenge to Ethical Vegetarians has degenerated into yet another unproductive free-for-all, I will reiterate my challenge.
A one-on-one debate in Formal Debates and Discussions with Spin or anyone else who criticizes the eating of meat on moral or ethical grous, or moral subjectivism, or any reasonable proposition over which we disagree. As the challenged, you may pick the resolution. If you think the crux of the bisquit is subjectivism, pick a resolution accordingly. Phrase the resolution any way you choose, so long as we actually disagree. Facts about me, make of them what you will:

Arguments are down the corridor. This is abuse. |

Are you saying that you are being abused, or that you are abusing people? You aren't really doing much for your position by avoiding the challenge.

You have eaten meat in the future? Was it at that restaurant at the end of the Universe, by chance?

Being a moral vegetarian myself, I might be willing to take up the challenge. But this is primarily an atheism site, I don't think it would be appropriate to host a debate on a very unrelated topic in the formal debates forum.

I accept! Pick your resolution! We must also negotiate the format. While I would agree to a free-form debate, I suggest we negotiate a more structured format, the better to hold the attention of our audience and to make the debate itself publishable. Yes, given that there is a "Moral Foundations & Principles" forum, it certainly seems appropriate.

This sentence should read "I have eaten meat in the past." [ March 28, 2002: Message edited by: Malaclypse the Younger ]</p> |

Oh sorry. I would have saved all that for my opening post if I had known you would accept so soon.
Anyway, as for format, formal debating style bores me incredibly. Free-form is much more interesting, and it allows for far greater scope of discussion. |
