Would somebody PLEASE explain the interest in the concept of Metaphysics...
This concept seems like a lot of bunk to me...all this numbers and jazz that seem to run the same circles of religious books.
Any other thoughts on the topic? |

It's all pretty much along the same lines of religion. I'm not an expert on it, but I think the concept is that there are things that can't be explained by science, so they're trying to create a science to explain them.
Granted, that doesn't make a lot of sense, but then again neither does metaphysics. |

Metaphysics deals with a variety of issues (not just religious), including the existence (or nonexistence) of free will, the materialism vs. immaterialism debate, etc. Metaphysics deals with the nature of reality as a whole and hence defies empirical means of validation. At one time, the branch of philosophy came under a lot of fire from logical positivists, until (I'm thinking it was Plantinga) pointed out that logical positivism is self-referentially incoherent: the truth or falsity of logical positivism cannot be derived from empirical means or logical necessity, hence the theory defeats itself.

Metaphysics falls under the realm of philosophy, which is in itself interesting. What is “reality”
Consciousness is the only thing that exists in metaphysics, the way I understand it anyway. Doesn’t really have much to do with religion. |
