One notable thing about quests for the historical Jesus Christ is that the result often ends up being in the likeness of the one doing the quest.

Which seems like yet another case of Xenophanes's Law -- that people create deities in their own likeness.

I suggest this thought experiment for those considering the historical-Jesus question: take a time machine and go back to northern Palestine in the early 30's CE. Imagine that you have a Star Trek Universal Translator with you, so language is no barrier. Would one have discovered the Jesus Christ of the Gospels there? And what would he have been like?
