"Hi Veil of Fire,

What could you give them that would be worse than what they already have?"

I dunno. Something that would make them LEAVE EVERYONE ELSE ALONE would be nice, tho. Lockjaw, or Polio, or both. So they'd spend all their time praying for God to heal them, and not have any time to tie gay people to fence posts and beat them to death.

If you read this thread carefully, you'll see that Daydreamer quite clearly said "I don't agree with everything you say but I think you're a great person".

Where are these places where the atheist fundies have everyone cowed?

I meant that, on most of this board, the atheist fundies *are* cowed by everyone else. You still see occasional rampant hostility; for instance, the "one down, 39,999 to go" thread.

So... There's a few people around who hate theists for existing, for being theists, or for disagreeing with them, and who spend their time chanting about how "delusional" theists are... but, most of the time, peer pressure keeps them from getting too loud about it. Similarly, on ChristianForums, there's a tendency for the ranting/raving fundies to be shushed by the moderates... By contrast, on BaptistBoard, the fundies are a clear majority.

We must have been on different Christian Forums

Plus, I never sensed here a level of peer pressure here that would stop people sharing how they feel. As long as they weren't overly discourteous to someone else actually posting here (i.e. say what you like about some public Christian figure, for example - or [conservative] Christians in general) and there's clearly more freedom on RRP than other boards here, having said that.

Sorry, but that does not compute. Even a secularist would disagree with you on that.
I love it when people speak in my name, seems like they speak for Christ quite alot too?

In the end, you took the moral high ground, and in the spirit of your beliefs, rather than the literal and very conflicting version, you did what was right. Josh, tell them to remove the log from their eye because Jesus associated with the tax collectors. They will not even go near "sinners." I think its time to question who you hang out with, that they can't accept your beliefs and blatantly take things you say out of context and ignore all your reasons for doing so.

I commend you, I wouldn't have the morality to march for a Baptist churches free speech, you are a model for Christianity that transcends even the biases here. Good job.

Thought I might get more support here than on the BB.

Joshua,
Just a very short comment.
To stand for the rights of each individual in a democratic society is the ultimate expression of
patriotism.
It does not matter what you actually felt about pornography, what matters is that you did not shirk the responsibility of standing for the constitution of this country and the civil rights of it's citizens , which seems to be under constant attack from many sides.
A nobel undertaking....
If there had been such a scene in my part of the country, Sandy and I would have done the same.

Well, I admit, I'm one of the people doing a lot of shushing. At least a couple of people seem to have written me off as "unsaved" and leave any thread in which I argue a point, lest I contaminate them. But it improves the quality of discourse.

Yeah. What I was commenting on was that I periodically see fairly aggressive hostility to "all theists", and it generally gets at least one slap from one of the moderate atheists.

Ugh, I read two threads at the BaptistBoard and I feel ready to throw up. I didn't even know baptist women would voluntarily take rights away from themselves because of the bible. Im totally disgusted.

My mom's church made it a sin to even order for yourself in a restaurant. If you're a woman, your husband must order for you, because HE's paying. Maybe he doesn't want to pay so much for your favourite dish, eh? So he orders for you instead.

Knowing my dad, he probably orders her a glass of water.

What did you expect from Helen and her BaptistBoard ilk now that there aren't any atheists for them to gang up on? Is that a bulls-eye I see on chest there, Reverend?
