Default Must Justice Moore GO TO JAIL for acknowledging God?

New Coral Ridge Fundraising Letter: Judge Moore might go to jail!

Quote:
An envelope containing the appeal for donations asks, "Must Justice Moore GO TO JAIL for acknowledging God?" and depicts a man clutching the bars of a jail cell. It asks for money to help raise $150,000 for an appeal of a federal judge's ruling that Moore's display in the state Judicial Building is unconstitutional.

"The chances of him going to jail are infinitesimal," said attorney Morris Dees of the Southern Poverty Law Center, one of three organizations suing Moore to have the monument removed. "It's all fund-raising hype. It's a cruel hoax on those who support Coral Ridge Ministries to have them believe Justice Moore is going to jail to line the pockets of Coral Ridge Ministries."

. . .

Dees estimated the Moore campaign has raised about $5 million for Coral Ridge so far. The recent fund-raising letter said the church contributed $200,000 to Moore's defense last year.

Question: if this is a cruel hoax, how is that different from the usual Coral Ridge fundraising letter?

What nonsense! Sadly, the fundy masses will swallow this crap because they've been taught, usually since birth, that the Evil Atheists are trying to get them all thrown in prison.

I'm sure the donations will come pouring in from every trailer park in America.

Here's a PDF copy of D. Jimmy's fundraising letter in all its odious glory. It's the same old theft-by-deception scheme that these millionaire hucksters have been using to great effect ever since TV met Christian evangelism. Sad to say, it works all too well.

This case stinks a little more with each story. From the article Toto linked:

Quote:
"We have no control whatsoever over what Coral Ridge does," [Moore's lead counsel Stephen] Melchior said. "We have never commented on, reviewed or edited their fund-raising efforts. Whatever Coral Ridge does, Coral Ridge does. It's as simple as that. They are not the only contributor to the defense fund. We have a mailing list of 7,000 individuals -- just regular people -- who send money."

Melchior, who coordinates the defense fund, said he did not know how much money it has raised or spent over the years. "My accountant would know. I don't," he said. (Emphasis added.)
So Chief Justice Moore's lead counsel "coordinates" the fund from which he gets paid? You betcha. After all, he set it up. Jesus. Fucking. Christ. Does he name himself a devisee in his clients' wills too? :banghead:

When asked if he thought Thompson would have Moore arrested, Melchior said, "I have no idea. Go ask Thompson. I believe Judge Thompson will do whatever he wants to do. If a judge would say the Ten Commandments are unconstitutional, who knows what he might do. He might even throw a judge in jail."
Of course that is a complete distortion. The Judge has not said that the 10Cs are unconstitutional. He has said Moore has tried to use his 10Cs to unconstitutionally establish religion in his courthouse. Typical fundie distortions for the mass consumption by the gullible masses.

It never ceases to amaze me how dishonest Christians can be in the support of their so-called faith. Conservative Christian leadership has always been fundamentally deceitful in it's approach to the issue. Absolutely amazing!

Coral Ridge must be stupid. Did they not read the decision against Moore? A good chunk of the evidence against Roy's Rock came from Coral Ridge using it to collect money.

Even for me, the Coral Ridge letter makes me sick. I have no problem with them providing legal defense; in fact, I prefer that they do it (1) so that no taxpayer funds are involved in this and (2) they have apparently been the ones to have profited from this whole venture, they "oughta foot the bill". Though I do probably agree with most of Kennedy's political agenda, I have no use for TV evangelists especially the money grubbin' kind (is there another?).
