I gave up Catholicism for Lent a while back...
I like Lent. My sister, and therefore her children, give up television every year for Lent. So I get to pick on my nieces and nephew about all the cool TV shows they're missing. *chortle* Ah, tormenting teenagers; one of the good things about being an aunt. |

Actually, I am observing Lent--which will be new for me. I'm giving up eating out at restaurants.
I like to cook, we're not rolling in the dough--and it will give me a chance to think about nourishment and what I fill my body and life with. Am I neglecting important things--like my health and well-being--in the name of convenience? Am I speeding thru the short span of time I have without taking time to enjoy myself and be fulfilled? Am I wasteful? I think that Lent serves a good purpose because it is a time of reflection--and I think that too often people rush around and don't take time to think about their actions and their purposes. As a Christian, I am also going to use this time to learn more about what I believe and why, meditating about my faith and its purpose--useful subjects for Lent. --tibac A serious comment for this thread, and a silly comment for the other, more serious thread, JenniferD. Which way is up? |

I have given up eating out before, for health reasons and for $$ reasons, but I never associated it with a specific time of year for giving stuff up. I also gave up TV for a couple of years, but not for any higher or nobler reason than the fact that I didn't have a TV. I have to say I learned a lot about life and the world and myself during that time, but it was quite unintentional, I am sure. |

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to figure out the what and why and the purpose Before you started believing? |
