Well, I've said it all, and even I get tired of repeating.
  1. USA admin don't give a shit about anything not representing immediate security and/or profit to them --- watch the White House demand the Europeans pay for reconstruction
  2. Even though there were so few troops, they could have done something --- the Brits were far more proactive on this in Basra
  3. It was all predictable, and as we now learn from the two Cultural advisors who resigned, it was all predicted well beforehand.
  4. Therefore the USA admin is morally and practically guilty of enabling this tragedy.
Already asked for forgiveness of Iraq debt to France, Germany, Russia <-- probably just for starters

Few troops, yet they now control all the Oil fields (I do wonder what those troops think of their current role)

Now 3 advisers resigned, disgusted

What a fine war plan

Yeah, now that the U.S. is in control, it wants to minimize the burden and make these countries pay by indirection. It might be somewhat better for the Iraqi people, but it sure puts a sour taste in tho mouths of these countries.

Yes, this is a most damning observation! What a hideous charade the U.S. is playing on the world.

Those poor people thought they were serving a good cause merely because they were serving under the Star Spangled Banner. Like many of us, now they're not so sure things are that simple.

Gurdur,

Hehe, well I appreciate the kind words. You may be surprised to know that one of my favorite beers is Sam Adams, an American brew. But besides that its likely Samuel Smith, Guiness or Peroni.

Bah, the looting news is older than the Saving Private Lynch story, what I want to know is why isn't anyone reporting on the burning?

Why doesn't anyone seem to mind that Bagdhad still has no electricity or water?

How can the most powerful nation on earth be so damn ignorant and short sighted?

Powerful, does not mean clever.

Just a guess but when we have powercuts here in the UK it can take some days to return the power supply to normal, could well be similar if not harder in Iraq. The Iraqi people are only just returning to work, so I'd imagine that they would be needed to run the power stations, since the fighting has only been sporadic since last week its only just become safe enough for people to get to work. Just a guess.

Sorry if this has already been addressed (I'm too lazy to read the whole thread right now), but has anyone else heard that apparently some of the items stolen from the museum in Baghdad were taken earlier and the looting and smashing of other items was just a cover?

No--I haven't heard that....but I did hear that professional thieves are thought to be responsible for losses of artifacts, rather than looters.

If I were an Iraqi, I would have looted a "No Looting" sign.
