Post Re - Near Death Experiences

After a converstion with a friend can anyone tell me of any studies down on the NDE (and similar)experiences in other cultures. I want to find out if other cultures interpret NDE in a different way.

As NDE are probably either a form of hallucination (which therefore might influence by culture) or else are caused by the brain starting to close down (I think if this is the case if there would be similarities in all cultures)

I looked in the local library but all thew books there seem to steer towards NDE being a sign there is an afterlife and I am looking for books that explain it more scientifically/

According to some people's real accounts of their NDE, they claimed to remember clearly all the past events that had occured in their lives since their birth. This is quite an extraordinary experience which I had missed despite encountering near death situation before.

There's also the possibility that the brain constructs the NDE after the event itself, trying to make sense of an utterly novel experience.

I'm with Answerer though. My one NDE was an NE (non-event), perceptually.
