There's this 18-year old girl (If I'm not mistaken) who went to Hilda's collage, Oxford seven years ago as a Math prodigy. That made her the youngest student ever offered at the prestigious Oxford University. Last two years, Sufiah Yusof made the headlines in my local dailies for trying to evade from her family. It seems that she confessed, her father was a tyrannical and manipulative freak who wants the best out of her and living with her family, "life a living hell". Her home was described as like a second school with blackboards and tables and books all over and teories, table charts, pasted on walls. Their major conversation was also about Mathematics and not much leisure.

Recently, the local dailies have highlighted concern about Sufiah going "rowdy" compared to her goody-goody Muslim past, all dressed neatly in hijab and exposing only hands. It was reported that she "dumped" her Quran, praying mat and hijab in her last place she stayed. She stayed with a secular foster family (I think freethinkers) when she last left for Oxford. Her way of dressing now seems to displeased Muslim groups here. Today's daily highlighted Malaysian Muslim Interest Group at Oxfordshire telling Sufiah to go back to her parents. Problem? Why, of course!

Sufiah's father, Faruoq, claimed that her secular family "brainwashed" her until Sufiah could make outrageous claimes against her parents. Even last two years ago, she was claimed to be kidnapped, only to found out Sufiah herself staged a "conspiracy" to take advantage of her parents. A teen prodigy that screwed up? It was no wonder as I heard reports that Sufiah, along with her siblings, had to adhere a strict educational regime. She has to wake up wee-hours in the morning and do the Solat, exercise with her family before settling down to study.

This may sound best to be posted at Secular Lifestyle, but the problem is should Sufiah's father launch a force attempt to bring her back. He is already backed by Muslims groups like mentioned above. By the way I read, it seems that Sufiah is no longer intrested in Islam any longer. I wouldn't know what the English authorities are doing there.

Currently, Hilda Collage issued a statement to Sufiah's family to leave her alone for the time being for her to concentrate on her studies. Einstein and Alfa Edison all do not believe in organized Christianity, and surely a genius like Sufiah will find Islam all barbarical, discriminating, and no less wishy-washy fabled myth than the Bible.
