Default Medical Detective - Michael Baden

I was listening to an interview with Dr. Michael Baden on the radio as I drove to work this morning. If you haven't heard of him, he's one of the leading forensic pathologists in the U.S.

Anyway, a comment he made got my hackles raised. He was talking about how the human body reaches a terminal velocity of about 120 mph as it falls to the earth, regardless of the height. He then said how wonderful it was that good ol' god had made us so that our skin holds together at that airspeed.

Good god, man, all the death you've seen and you still believe in GOD? Come on.

Didn't he testify for the defense in the O.J. trial? Or was it some other famous trial shortly after that one? (Back when I watched Court TV.) Anyway, I've been a litte skeptical of his remarks for some time. Seems he concludes what the people paying him want him to conclude.

I'm not familiar with Dr. Baden, but my experience is that sometimes scientists and doctors (especially those in the media) will mention God giving us certain attributes, but they are really referring to nature (or evolution) and God is used metaphorically. I understand that Dr. Dean Edell (radio doctor) is either an agnostic or athiest, yet he occasionally refers to God giving us some attribute, as if he were a creationist (which he most certainly is not). I always assume he is using the term "God" VERY loosely and metaphorically, perhaps so he doesn't alienate his religious listeners or the ABC radio management. Maybe Dr. Baden is doing the same thing here.
