Default Crossing out "In God We Trust"

Cross it out!!

Though it's debatably illegal to deface your US currency, its standard practice for banks and casinos to make marks on them.

I recently came across another John 3:16 written on my dollar bill and it really pissed me off. Christians using dollars as flyers!! So...I have now just taken my black sharpie and crossed out the entire phrase on all my bills (wish there were more of them!).

If we all did this to every bill we came across, would it make a noticable difference? Would this turn into a battle of who could write on more bills, Christians or SofC&S people?

All I know is that I felt pretty good about doing it and I'm going to KEEP doing it!!!

Here is the law pertaining to the defacement of US currency according to the The United States Treasury Bureau of Engraving and Printing
Quote:
Defacement of currency is a violation of Title 18, Section 333 of the United States Code. Under this provision, currency defacement is generally defined as follows: Whoever mutilates, cuts, disfigures, perforates, unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, Federal Reserve Bank, or Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued, shall be fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.

Thanks for the law Jewel!!

Crossing out the phrase, or even just the "God" wouldn't make it unfit for reissue. So I'm in the clear!! Though a little bitty part of me want it to be bad.

PS I had a wheresgeorge dollar yesterday! But I spent it.

I also just saw a reference on www.godoffmoney.com that it is also illegal to advertise on US currency. That must be why they had to stop selling the stamps. Glad I got mine before they did stop.

Odd, a couple days ago I crossed "IN GOD WE TRUST" off of all the bills I had lying around.
I misplaced my sharpie but i got a big wad of one's just waiting for it.

I don't know if theres any point, but, why not...

Looking at the law, the key phrase is, "with intent to render such item(s) unfit to be reissued". The intent in blacking out the phrase, "In God We Trust", is obviously to have the money remain in circulation for the blacked out phrase to be seen by as many people as possible and not, to render it unfit for reissue.

I mark the phrase off of all of my paper money. I keep an ultra-fine sharpie in my purse. It's just a little thing in our efforts to get the nonsense removed from our currencey, but for now I think it's all we can do....Suzanne

Well I also tried scratching it off quarters, but that takes a bit too much effort
