Geologists & the age of the Earth
I posed this question on CF awhile back, but it got trainwrecked and no examples were brought forth.
I'm just wondering if any geologists disagree with the current accepted age of the Earth for reasons besides religious conviction. Basically, if there's any dissent at all. It doesn't have to be necessarily someone who believes the Earth is only 10k years old or anything. Just if there's anyone with a difference of opinion on the age of the Earth, but who is obviously not motivated by religion. |

4.4-5.0 Ga
Ok, I think it's more in the range from 4.4-5.0 Ga because the errors on the age estimates are understated and I consider the age of the earth to be when it first started to coalesce. Yes, I'm a maverick and my ideas may be way off base, but it has nothing to do with religion.

Interesting you should ask, because there's recently been a thread on the Beliefnet creation/evolution board about that. Someone asked if anybody had converted to YECism after having come to the comclusion on a scientific basis that the Earth was young. The resident creationist said there were loads, but the only name he managed to come up with was John Woodmorappe.:banghead:
There's also been a thread on the subject of how many Japanese YECs there are. The creationist evasions would be amusing if they weren't so pathetic. |
