Thumbs up As I type this MSNBC is running a repeat of Donahue...

...with Jerry Falwell and a woman named Rios (a chip off the despicable Beverely Le Haye's block) running true to form, and Barry Lynn, Newdow, and an upcoming guest fighting the good fight with Phil. And, Phil has an audience (admittedly, I haven't had time to catch Donahue lately, but I hope that MSNBC and Phil have finally recognized that Phil's natural environment is a show with a studio audience).

I wish Barry Lynn would just do what it looks like he's ready to do; reach over and slap "Rios" across the face.

G'day,
I saw the program you mentioned. I found something very illuminating: Falwell and Rios used two popular tactics in their arguements. First, they both used deceit.."you want to take God out of our society" (not true, the discussion was about separation of church and state), and ad hom attacks. I find it interesting that so called religious people use deceit and personal attacks to further their cause. The constitution was designed to protect us from idiots like that.

Yes, I personally wish more people had pointed out how personally nasty both Rios and Falwell were. Rios in particular several times chided people who were quick to "claim to know me" while routinely making sweeping judgements of those who disagreed with her.

This is one of the more obvious reasons why it's good that Barry Lynn is an ordained minister in a mainline sect. It's also why it behooves us to partner with enlightened theists who recognize their own stake in strict seperation.

I agree. It also behooves them to partner with us. I have yet to hear a mainstream Christian minister say "Hey, there's nothing wrong with Harry Potter, and there's no such thing as witchcraft."

What irks me most about these types is that stupid, constant smile they wear when arguing with people. It just smacks of veiled contempt.

One thing that wasn't addressed was Falwell's claim that Lynn isn't a real Reverend and that Lynn uses the title to speak as an authority on religion. What's Falwell's claim on that?
