Ran into a fundie friend and this is what she said
Last night at Wal-Mart I ran into a fundie friend of mine.
She hasn't seen me at church in some time, and so she asked what is going on with me. I told her that I just don't believe the Bible. So can you guess what she said? She said, "Oh, you need to stop reading the Old Testament. Read the New Testament for a while. You're under a new covenant!" Then she said, "You should pray about it." When I told her what some of my doubts were, she said she didn't have any answers, but said that I should go read this one book. I like the gal and all, but she's just wasn't getting it. And of course, she didn't have any answers. Typical. Yesterday I actually ran into 3 people from church. I live in a town of 100,000 people and my old church only has 120 members, yet I run into them all over. So I'm afraid that whenever I go anywhere and I see them, they're going to try to save me, and I don't want to hear it. I'm going to have to tell them that I've got my mind made up, so quit with the preaching! I'm a lost cause. I'll say I was pre-destined for destruction! And God has sent me a powerful delusion so I'll believe the lie. Maybe they'll really believe that. |

It's none of their business and you don't have to answer to them. Do you recall which passage this chick wanted you to "pray about"? You just might want to read it... in the Skeptic's Annotated Bible. |

I read your post over a few times and I discovered what the real problem is.

I have quite a vivid memory of a stop I made at a Wal-mart in Lynchburg, Va (home of Jerry Falwell) full of Fundies... |

The WalMarts in my area play contemperary Christian music on the PA. It used to piss me off to hear it even when I was a Christian. I thought it was shoving it into everyone's faces.

Re the OP: you could always ask WWJD? Given that the only Scripture he had was the "Old" Testament, and no "New" Testament existed, I think he'd recommend the original. Endorsed by the earliest Christians, also (who had nothing but the old scripture to go by). Or you could skip the Gospels altogether and go straight for the Koran. Or the Book of Mormon, what have you. |
