US's plan for reconstructing post-war Iraq are in a mess. Apparently Bush and Co do not have any idea how to deal with suicide attacks and a rebellious population. So they are now pressurizing India to send troops to restore order and administer Iraq.
Yeah right! Indian troops will go there to be shot at and be marked as occupying forces and do the dirty job of ruling a hostile country so that USA can benefit. Your mess, you clean it up. Why did you go into Iraq if you did not have any idea what to do? why not leave if you don't have the stamina to hold onto what you have grabbed? Why ask another country --- and a 3rd world one to boot --- to shore up USA with its freedom, democracy and shock and awe? I still cannot believe that after conducting an unilateral war and taking over a country USA wants another country to take over the actual job of ruling its newest province! ![]() |

Yeah, that kind of thing tends to happen when you're just a third-world colony, a subject of the American Empire.
I suspect there's no end in the near future to what America will do to create a "coalition of the willing," and, unfortunately, India may have little realistic choice but to go along with this idiocy. For what it's worth, as an American, I offer my apologies; I was one who initially supported the Iraqi invasion, foolishly duped into believing that WMD's were poised to strike somewhere soon. |

I don't understand. Both responses basically said:

But exaclty why does India have to do this? Many other countries haven't, some even at a noticeable cost to themselves. What special lever does the United States have with India that will make it impossible for them to say no? |

I, along with Dr. Rick, send India and anyone else who suffers an apology. At first, I did support the war with Iraq, I now regret it. That was when Bush was in neutral territory with me, but he is in the negatives with me now.
I now see how going to war did nothing. I see that Bush may have lied to get there. I am ashamed of our leaders. Again, I give everyone my apology. |

And hinduwoman, why are you under the impression that India is under pressure from US to deploy troops in Iraq????? If at all the matter is being considered by the indian government and media bytes are being utilised for the issues, it is simple, because they want piece of the action - Iraq's oil and reconstruction contracts. Basic materialistic ideals...... US has enough cronies pre and post war to cater to their demands |

Count on support from me when you complain as bitterly about the export of manufacturing jobs. |
