Me to. I've become VERY GOOD at debating now, especially when its about something I believe strongly in. Everyone that comes into close contact with me either leaves religion, becomes a deist, or becomes an atheist. I'm so proud! And I never bring up the subject to them. They are always the ones bringing it up to me.

I too am constantly "out", engage in many discussions with theists in hope of at least "planting the seed" of reason in their minds, and have written several letters to the editor of my local paper.

I would *love* to work for an freethought organization (even start one) or write a book like Judith Hayes' "The Happy Heretic" (since writing is my passion and the phenomenon of religion is a close second) and would do so (either) in a second if life circumstances made it possible.

I also financially support the SecWeb and hope to be able to contribute more (financially) in the future to more freethought organizations.

If they hold a Godless March anywhere that I can feasibly travel I will be there.

I would like to think that I am making the biggest difference *that I can* at this time in my life.

SecularFuture may I ask what the impetus for your post was? I am just curious...

Excellent, but you (everyone) should also, maybe, try to inspire others around you to do the same.

I'm trying to collaborate with The Ethical Atheist and a few other freethought groups. I was collaborating with The Infidel Guy, but we got into a fight about some stupid sh!t and haven't talked since.

As soon as everything "cools" down in the bill department, I plan on donating at least 5% or 10% of each paycheck to a freethought / secular organization. And no - secular activism does not mix with my professional or personal life.

We need less people talking about making a change, and more people out there trying to make change. More secularists need to become outspoken, passionate about their place and future, etc.

Sitting on your ass complaining about how horrible everything is isn't going to make any kind of a difference to anything.

Exclamation

I once wrote a letter to the editor in an attempt to educate folks about why the 10C shouldn't be posted in schools or other public buildings. Got a call from some old widow who tried to change my mind. I just listened to her for a while and said that I didn't agree. Neither of us really seemed to be up for an argument at that point. She probably prayed for me.

I'd do more financially if I weren't so strapped right now. I think simply being here and educating folks does help a bit. I did a thread once asking if II had helped anyone deconvert and was a bit surprised at the response. Apparently, we get a good number of folks who are questioning religion and their beliefs. After being here for a while, reading and posting, they deconvert. We are doing some good here (or at least more likely, here)!

These people are SO CLOSED MINDED!

"My beliefs are right because they coincide with a novel that I believe was inspired by a supernatural superman, and yours are wrong because they do not follow the word of my novel!"

This country (USA) is starting to really upset me! I think I'm going to leave as soon as possible. It'll be better for me, and my work, I think.

Yes. Indeed.

I dare you to go to this site and try to educate the people there.
http://www.rr-bb.com/ Its the #1 fundie board in the world, I think. I've been banned there many times because I was becoming an influence.

We need to start advertising for this message board. I don't think many theists would have a chance against our hard, unfiltered, logic and critically thought.

I took a look and could not stop laughing. "End Times Chat"?? "Killer Ants Threaten Australia" is surely a sign of the End Times. But there's a forum is for the Ladies, who post on their problems with dry hair and how many pounds they have lost on the Atkins diet. Wake Up! Whe Armageddon hits, you won't need to worry about your hair or your love handles!

And some people wonder why I am so anti-theism. Rapture Ready turned me into the monster that I am today! Luckily I have a professional and personal life to counterbalance the internet insanity, because if I didn't... ROAR!!

Default Out there Helping the Cause?

Thanks for the interesting thread topic.

I'm both out there and sitting right here, helping 'the cause.' My nickname isn't just for shock value. I've always been an activist on many issues, and hearing my children recite the Pledge as taught in public school is plenty of inspiration to add my atheism to the list of things I email my elected officials about.

I host a chat room on MSN (God is a Lie!), I support many atheist causes with both my time and my money. I attend the Philadelphia Atheists Meet Up and I encourage others to try to attend the MeetUps local to them, the Third Tuesday of each month at 7pm their time, around the world.

I'm a member of roughly 3 dozen atheist activist and community groups, and I enjoy "meeting" and "introducing" people to each other online. (For example, I just saw a message on a board from a guy who thinks he's the only atheist in El Paso, TX. If you know otherwise, email me.)

This past week I wrote about the Pledge (and YAY to the 9th Circuit Court!). When I write, I post my letters to my message boards and, on the boards, I include references from a variety of sources. Such as: http://www.atheists.org/action/alert-28-feb-2003.html

This summer, I plan to work on publicity in the Philadelphia area. I'm sorry to hear that SecularFuture had a bad experience with The Infidel Guy; my MSN chat community merged with the Atheist Network as a direct result of our attendance at the Godless Americans March in November 2002, and it's been great. My friends are making net radio shows and websites, and we use both our real names and our net nicks to entertain and inform.

In addition to these things, my female friends and I are thinking of making and selling a calendar. "God is a Lie, But These Are Real" or something. Tee hee hee.

And not only do I DO all these things, I also share my hobby with others. *huge grins* You can find me on Google, as well as here, there, and everywhere.

I heard there will be another Godless Americans March on Washington this year, and if so, then YEE HA, see you all there.

Kissies to all, stay in touch, email me directly (at godstopper@atheistnetwork.com) with news on public demonstrations, letter-writing campaigns, or just to say hi.
