Angry Are You Out There Helping Secularism?

Or are you just a spectator, full of talk and no walk?

I'd like to hear what you think is required to "walk." I'm suspicious of that term, especially since it is followed by that rather ominous looking angry face. When I was a Christian, I was ocassionally lectured by more fanatical believers about the Christian "walk," which according to them usually involved doing your best to cram your religion down other people's throats.

In my spare time, I write articles designed to articulate and / or promote my feelings for secular humanism and secular transhumanism. In most cases, I try to explain why secularism, in its many forms, is more rational and up-to-date than traditional theism.

An example of my articles can be found HERE

Instead of sitting on my ass hoping for change (like a religious theist), I try to get involved. Nothing is going to change unless we want, and fight for change.

To start the "walk" it is only necessary to take the first step and profess your atheism to your spouse, your parents, and when applicable your friends. You have no reason to be ashamed of what you believe.

I wrote a pro-evolution letter to the editor some years ago. And it was printed, too -- the same day I started my job as a journalist. Which means I now have a professional obligation to keep my opinions to myself.

I still send money when I can afford it. (It's coming soon, II!)

I write a lot of letters to the editor. I also wrote a letter to the local Diversity Committee head which was picked up on by the Boston Globe and became this story(WARNING LARGE FILE) .

I also participated in the Godless Americans March, and give money to the ACLU and the Secular Web.

I totally agree. Everyone I associate with knows that I am an atheist. I don't make a big deal out of it though. I still have a professional life to live.

You could always continue to write for secularism and evolution under an alias.
